Ok so here’s where we started (and keep in mind, we lived in the house for a year before ANY curtains were even put up…)
Pay attention to the curtains. Not the toddler wearing a Build-A-Bear oufit (don’t ask… if you have a toddler, you know better than to ask). Also don’t look at the pile of blankets/clothes/bag on the couch… just pay attention to the curtains. That’s where I started.
Then, I found this! Gorgeous!
It’s from Swavelle Mill Creek, but I’ve had a really hard time pinpointing the actual name. I initially measured that I would need exactly 2.5 yards for each panel. I didn’t want to go crazy making all 4 panels because I didn’t want to invest too much time and money if it totally flopped. So I bought 5 yards. It was originally $19.99, but with a 50% off sale and 20% off coupon, got me somewhere in the $50 range for 2 panels. And here’s how they looked!
The last picture really gives you a good idea of why I picked the fabric. Our rug! I love this rug so much. We bought it off of overstock.com for dirt cheap! Here’s the direct link to the rug.
I went back to JoAnn’s and the only had enough for one more panel, and I had to special order the last 3 yards (I wanted to get some extra for a pillow or maybe make some artwork out of it). But here we are at three curtains:
Oh and I did add those ring clips. I figured if either baby gets over to the area, I’d much rather them just pull the curtain off the clip than pull the curtain rod out of the wall. I got the clips off Amazon here. I got 4 sets – one for each panel.
So, panel number three will be coming soon… whenever the fabric gets in. But in the mean time, I’ve been staring at the panels everynight thinking about how much I love them. Really, I do! And I’m pretty impressed with myself and the sewing machine! As I was staring at the curtains I realized how much the ikat design looks like peacock feathers. I searched etsy for a week at all the peacock artwork. People sure are amazing! Here are the two prints I decided on:
They are from this little shop. I’m so excited! I can’t wait! I ordered them in 11×14, and plan to frame them to 16×20 and hang them on either side of the curtains. Maybe over time they’ll end up on one side, with some thing on the other side… we will see.
Crummy part… the shop is in Hong Kong. So it would be 21 business days before I see them. Bummer. I can’t wait to see them in person! What do you think? Do you see the peacock feathers in the design? I really did want something with more texture than just flat prints since I have so much 2D work all over the house. But I’m really happy and excited about these guys.
